Project Summary

Bass Coast Shire Council has appointed SR Excavations Pty Ltd under annual supply contract to carry out Black Spot Improvement Works on Mill Road in Woolamai.

Works began in early February 2024 and are scehduled for completion in late March 2024, subject to favourable weather, contractor, and supplier availability. This project is part of Council’s adopted 2023/24 Capital Works Program and is fully funded through the Federal Government Black Spot Program.

The Black Spot Program is part of the commitment to reduce crashes on Australian roads. Road crashes are a major cost to Australians every year.

The objective of the Federal Government Black Spot Program is to reduce the number of serious and fatal road crashes, typically over a five-year period.

The locations of the Black Spot Improvement are determined through the crash history recorded on Mill Road, Woolamai from No.70 to No.240 from 2017 to 2020.

This project is part of Council’s adopted 2023/24 Capital Works Program and is fully funded through the Federal Government Black Spot Program in the order of $240,000.

The works will involve shoulder widening, drainage works, additional road signage and line marking including audio tactile line marking.

Installation of directional chevron hazard signs in three locations to improve safety on the road bends.

Appropriate traffic control measures will be in place through the duration of works.
