Project Summary
Work commenced on 15 April 2024 to replace a section of footpath in Marine Parade, San Remo.
The section is located in front of the Westernport Hotel on the corner of Marine Parade and Woolamai Grove. It had been significantly impacted by tree roots which had lifted sections of the path creating hazards for pedestrians.
The work included the removal of three existing trees, with these trees to be replaced with potted trees maintaining the look and feel of the street while improving pedestrian safety and ensuring longevity of the footpath.
Maintenance has been undertaken over the years to repair the footpath and retain the trees, this included patching, replacing sections and grinding to level sections.
The footpath has now reached a point where it requires to be replaced to ensure pedestrian safety.
The new footpath will be a durable surface unaffected by tree root damage while the amenity of the street will be maintained by installing potted trees.
This project is funded by Council through the Pathway Renewal Program in the order of $100,000 as part of the adopted Capital Works Program 2023/24.
We anticipate that the project will take approximately 4 weeks to complete with the new footpath ready by mid-May, weather permitting.
During the works there will be traffic and pedestrian control measures in place at times and there will be some noise, vibration and trucks for removal or delivery of materials. Our contractors will work to minimise the impact to pedestrians and businesses.
