Bass Coast Shire Council plan to close a section of Lookout Road, San Remo to ensure the safety of our community by ending its highly dangerous use for illegal activities - including fires, joyriding, littering and more.

Council’s proposal will restrict the passage of vehicles to the parking area and a 200-metre section of the road. By barricading the affected area Council hopes to stop any further antisocial behaviours, which have negatively impacted the local community including businesses such as nearby farms, residents, and visitors.

Council invited our community to submit feedback on the proposed closure, with all submissions considered to inform the final decision. Any person who wished to make a submission on the proposal were invited to do so in writing within 28 days of the publication of a public notice.

Submissions were received by;

  • completing the online submission form below OR
  • in writing to the Asset Officer Roads and can be sent by post to the following address: Bass Coast Shire Council PO Box 118 Wonthaggi VIC 3995, or via email to basscoast@basscoast.vic.gov.au.

Written submissions that meet the requirements of this notice will be considered in accordance with section 203 and section 223 of the Act. Any person who requests to be heard in support of their submission is entitled to be heard before the Council or be represented by a person acting on their behalf. Such persons will be notified of the time and date of the hearing.

After considering the submissions, the Council may either decide not to physically close Lookout Road to traffic or to physically close it.

Consultation is now closed.
