Construction Updates

IMPORTANT

Jetty Closure until Friday, 1 November 2024

Our Contractor is conducting welding works on site. There has been significant interest from the public in this much anticipated upgrade and this has resulted in more than expected visitors to the jetty.

For health and safety reasons, the Contractor with agreement from Council, will close the jetty until this high-risk work is completed (1 November 2024).

For the remainder of the project, there may be instances where the jetty will need to be closed after a risk assessment of each component of the work in the conditions at the time. This will be kept to a minimum and the public will be kept informed via Engage Bass Coast and on-site signage.

Project Summary

Bass Coast Shire Council will begin work in late September to construct a new jetty at the existing boat ramp in Inverloch. The new fixed jetty will include wave screens to reduce impacts of strong currents and improve safety when launching and retrieval vessels. The project also includes reinstatement of the existing rock wall.

Council has appointed Bridgewater Marine Pty Ltd after a competitive open tender process to undertake construction works.

This project is expected to be completed by 20 December 2024, subject to favourable weather and tides and material supply. Council recognises that it can be a challenge to deliver the necessary works and not affect the residents and facility users, especially when much of our work is determined by weather and tidal conditions.

During construction pedestrian access to the existing jetty will still be available. Please ensure to follow all safety signage around the construction site and on the jetty.

Thank you for your patience during the construction period. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions prior to or during the project.

About the Project:

  • This project is fully funded by State Government through Better Boating Victoria (BBV). Council will provide project management services for the delivery of this exciting project.
  • This boating facility has been identified for an upgrade due to safety concerns related to dangerous launching and retrieval conditions. The new jetty will provide berthing facilities, improving the functionality, capacity, access and safety of this boating facility
  • Construction of a new fixed jetty and reinstatement of the existing rock revetment.
  • The total project cost is in the order of $2 million. The funds have been provided from the State Government’s Better Boating Fund to provide for recreational boating improvements across Victoria. The Better Boating Fund returns licence and registration fees paid by boaters into delivering major ramp upgrades, more all-abilities boating facilities, grants programs to boost boating access, boating safety initiatives and much more.
  • No access to the boat ramp from late September 2024 until 20 December 2024.
  • Site fencing will be in place restricting access and encompass the worksite.
  • Boat ramp users will need to seek alternate boating facilities for boat launching during the construction period. Alternative boat launching facilities are located at Mahers Landing, Venus Bay, Corinella, Rhyll and Newhaven. For more information on local boat ramps please visit https://www.boating.vic.gov.au/
  • The carpark will be partially closed, while limited parking will be available on north and northwest side for the public. The overflow carpark will not be affected.
  • Pedestrian access is available to the Gippsland Ports jetty (located on the east side), west side beach and the toilet block.
  • Appropriate traffic and pedestrian control measures will be implemented onsite. Variable Message Signs (VMS) will be in place to advise the closure of the facility during the works. This will be a construction zone and for your own safety and others, there will be some access restrictions, including complete closure of parts of the facility. Limited emergency access will be provided.
  • The project will result in noise and vibration from heavy plant and machinery used for construction, including offshore pile driving, rock placing and use of trucks and cranes for removal or delivery of materials.
