Project Summary

Bass Coast Shire Council has appointed Sure Constructions Pty Ltd to perform major road widening, drainage and sealing works in Grantville Glen Alvie Road between Loch-Kernot Road to end of stage 1 works (Ch 2220) for 2220m length towards Loch-Wonthaggi Road, as part of Council’s 2025-26 Capital Works Program.

This busy road is requiring rehabilitation/renewal to improve its existing condition that provides a vital commuter link between Grantville and neighbouring rural communities and the regional centre of Wonthaggi. This road is also a major strategic freight and transport route for larger vehicles servicing the dairy, agriculture and extraction industries.

This Stage 2 project is partly funded by the Australian Government under the Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program (SLRIP), which consolidates the Bridges Renewal Program (BRP) and the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program (HVSPP). This program invests in improving the current state of regional roads to enhance connectivity and efficiency of regional communities and industry. The program supports practical projects that predominately benefit improving local road conditions in regional areas that involve drainage, shoulder widening and pavement rehabilitations. The total project cost is in the order of $4.04 Million with contributions of $3.2 Million from the Australian Government and $0.8 Million from Bass Coast Shire Council.

The road and drainage renewal works will involve the following.

  • Upgrading of Grantville Glen Alvie Road carriage way to 7m wide between Chainage 0.0 to Chainage 2220 – 2220m long.
  • Stormwater drainage works including the installation of 546m of kerb and channel drainage works along sections of this road.
  • Construction of 458m of concrete retaining walls and installation of 889m of road safety guard barriers.
  • Road pavement renewal works by adding rock overlay with cement and or lime stabilisation to the existing road pavement.
  • Placement/upgrade of existing driveway culverts with driveable end walls, as required.
  • Road spray sealing works, including possible asphalt surfacing at road intersections.
  • Installation of new or replacement of signage and line marking as required.

The above construction works are expected to be completed on 12 February 2026 (in 19 weeks), weather permitting. It is important to note that because of these works are occurring on our road network, both Council and our contractor will be committed to complete the renewal works with minimal disruptions to the through traffic.
