Project Summary

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Infrastructure Delivery department is set to begin construction of a series of Watts profile speed humps mainly along Surf Beach Rd and Seaward Dr in Cape Paterson and Potters Hill Rd in San Remo.

We appreciate your understanding and patience throughout the construction period. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us at any time during the project.

The project includes the construction of 14 speed humps on Seaward Dr, Cape Paterson; 7 speed humps on Surf Beach Rd, and 1 speed hump on Potters Hill Rd, San Remo.

Speed humps (or speed platforms) slow vehicle speeds, to reduce the risk of crashes in busy pedestrian areas, residential streets and around intersections. They also create calmer, quieter and more walkable neighbourhoods.

The speed humps in Cape Paterson are an outcome of the Cape Paterson Local Area Transport and Movement (LATM) Study, developed by Council in response to community safety concerns. The study included extensive community consultation, with residents highlighting speeding and increased traffic as key issues, particularly on Seaward Drive (32% of concerns) and Surf Beach Road (23%).

  • Preliminaries including mobilisation, site establishment & traffic control.
  • Removal and disposal of the existing pavement
  • Installation of Speed humps and associated signs
  • Cleaning and demobilisation
  • Temporary barricading will be in place to secure the work site and keep people from entering the construction site.
  • Traffic management will be in place for the duration of the works. Local detours will be in place to ensure local traffic can still access their properties. Appropriate signage will be in place to advise.
  • Appropriate traffic and pedestrian control measures will be implemented during these works.
  • Our staff and the contractor will notify nearby residents and user groups who may be impacted by these works.
  • The project will result in noise and vibration from plant and machinery used for construction, including earthmoving equipment, concrete/ road sawing and the use of trucks for delivery of crushed rock and concrete.
