About the Project
Council undertook a "Local Area Traffic Management" (LATM) study in Cape Paterson to improve traffic management and road safety to make it easier for community to get around the township. O’Brien Traffic were appointed as the contractor undertaking the study on Council’s behalf.
Stage 1 Initial Consultation
Stage 1 Consultation was undertaken in June/July 2024 where we invited all road users including drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, people using mobility devices and commercial vehicle operators and property owners in the study area to let us know their experiences, ideas and issues.
As well as the community feedback, traffic volume and speed data has been collected and analysed, crash data has been analysed, and we have undertaken site inspections in the study area.
What you told us
- Walking and cycling are a strong focus. There is a desire for safety improvements for pedestrians and cyclists to encourage walking and cycling within the township
- Traffic and road safety issues were also identified. There is community concern about speeds in local streets, safety at a number of intersections, and vehicles using lower volume streets during the summer months
- Parking concerns were raised, particularly the high parking demand during the summer months.
Stage 2 Consultation on draft Plan
Community feedback and research gained in Stage 1, informed the development of the draft Cape Paterson Local Area Traffic Management Plan. The draft LATM Plan was aimed at improving safety, access and amenity, and encouraging walking and cycling.
Local property owners and residents in Cape Paterson were emailed and sent a hard copy letter requesting feedback on the draft study. Feedback surveys were also available through this engagement page. Additionally drop in sessions (in person at Cape Paterson community hall and online) were undertaken to receive community feedback.
Stage 3 Completion
This information from the Stage 2 Consultation was collated and analysed, resulting in the final version of the Plan being presented to Council on 15 October 2025 when it was formally adopted.
