About the Project

Background

Council is currently preparing a Local Area Traffic Management Plan (LATM) for Newhaven - you may have participated in the first stage of consultation which began in May this year. This stage of consultation was to understand the broad traffic concerns of the community on the local streets of Newhaven.

We are currently reviewing the feedback and developing a draft LATM which we will seek community feedback on later this year.

Funding opportunity

In addition to the LATM, an opportunity has come up to receive grant funding to install traffic calming treatments in Newhaven. This is part of the Safe Local Roads and Streets Program delivered by the Department of Transport and Planning, in partnership with the Transport Accident Commission, to support the development and delivery of road safety infrastructure projects on local roads.

We are considering this now, rather than when the LATM is complete, because projects delivered within this program are required to be delivered by the end of 2026.

As part of this program, Council have nominated potential traffic speed calming treatments along Boys Home Road and Forrest Avenue, which are two roads for which concerns have been raised regarding traffic speed.

Note: any treatments on other roads or speed limit changes in Newhaven will be considered following the adoption of the LATM later in the year.

In the first stage of community engagement for the LATM we received feedback both in support and not in support of traffic calming treatments in these streets so we’re checking in again to get a clearer picture of the community’s preference.

Below is a short survey which provides possible options and a concept plan showing where the potential traffic calming treatments would be located.

Tell us what you would prefer by 10 July 2026.
