Project Summary

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Infrastructure Delivery department will soon commence construction works for Berry's Beach Road. The project details are outlined below.

The Project

  • The aim of this project is to ensure the rural road network including the recently constructed new culvert is safe and sustainable for the community into the future and appropriate levels of service are maintained.

  • Detailed design with two different pavement options and permits from Melbourne Water and for vegetation removal was obtained in FY23/24. Foamed bitumen option will be the preferred council option because it is cost effective and because first and second stage of 1320m from Ventnor Beach Road that was renewed with foamed bitumen pavement option.
  • The primary function of pavement is to provide a smooth riding surface and suitable surface friction. Commuters and the residential public would like to see the pavement surface smoothness last for the maximum of its life. Also widening of Berry's Beach Road will improve level of service and access to the large heavy vehicles.

This project is jointly funded by Bass Coast Shire Council ($300,000) and the Australian Government Roads to Recovery program ($923,666).

  • Pre-commencement works (service locations, site mobilisation, traffic sign installation and vegetation clearing) on the week starting 7 February 2025.
  • Stage 3 works are approximately 600 metres and ends at the Ventnor Road Intersection.
  • These works will include road pavement widening, driveway crossover works, road sealing, stormwater drainage, vegetation clearing, line marking and signage. All appropriate permits and approvals have been secured.
  • Significant changed traffic conditions including full road closure and detours will be in place for the duration of the project. Appropriate traffic control measures will be implemented onsite during these works. Electronic Variable Message Signs (VMS) will be in place to advise of these roadworks and detours.
  • This will be a construction zone and for your own safety and others, there will be access restrictions, road detours and closures. As always, emergency vehicle access will be provided.
  • The use of heavy plant and machinery including noisy, and vibration works for construction including earthworks and use of trucks for removal or delivery of materials etc.
