Project Summary

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Infrastructure Delivery Department will soon commence construction works for Archies Creek Road Pavement Rehabilitation. The project details are outlined below. We appreciate your patience during the construction period. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions before or during the project.

About the Project:

  • The primary function of the new pavement is to provide a smooth riding surface and suitable surface friction, especially as this road approaches the township of Archies Creek. Local residential public would like to see the pavement surface smoothness last for the maximum of its life.
  • Detailed design with two different pavement options and permits was obtained in FY23/24. A foamed bitumen option with asphalt sealing will be the preferred Council option because it is cost effective and similar roads have been successfully renewed with a foamed bitumen pavement option.
  • The primary function of pavement is to provide a smooth riding surface and suitable surface friction. Road users and the residential public would like to see the pavement surface smoothness last for the maximum of its life.

This project is jointly funded by Bass Coast Shire Council ($400,000), the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program ($250,000) and the Roads to Recovery Program ($360,000) at a total cost of $1,010,000.

  • Pre-commencement works (service locations, site mobilisation, traffic sign installation and vegetation clearing) are scheduled for early March 2025.
  • Works are approximately 1.1 km long from the edge of town, ending at the Loch/Wonthaggi Intersection.
  • These works will include some road pavement widening, driveway crossover works, foamed bitumen pavement, asphalt sealing, stormwater drainage, open drain clearing, line marking and signage. All appropriate permits and approvals have been secured.
  • Significantly changed traffic conditions including lane closure for shuttle flows will be in place for the duration of the project. Appropriate traffic control measures will be implemented onsite during these works. Electronic Variable Message Signs (VMS) will be in place to advise prior to these roadworks.
  • This will be a construction zone and for your own safety and that of others, there will be some access restrictions and lane closures. As always, emergency vehicle access will be provided.
  • The use of heavy plant and machinery includes noisy, and vibration works for construction including earthworks and use of trucks for removal or delivery of materials etc.
