Project Summary

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Infrastructure Delivery department will shortly commence works on Almurta-Glen Forbes Road, Almurta. Details of the project are outlined below.

Thank you for your patience during the construction period. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions prior to or during the project.

About the Project:

  • The culvert renewal on Almurta-Glen Forbes Road will replace the existing steel pipe located approximately 550 metres south of the Grantville-Glen Alvie Road.
  • The new culvert will increase the efficiency of flow discharge through the culvert and reduce risks of landslide and pavement, and embankment failures.
  • The Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program (SLRIP) commenced on 1 July 2024 to provide funding for projects to address current and emerging priorities in road infrastructure needs. The SLRIP has been created as part of the Australian Government’s commitment to strengthen investment to support the delivery of safer and more productive roads across Australia.
  • Works will involve the replacement of the existing steel pipe culverts with double cell concrete box culverts.
  • Earthworks, vegetation removal and minor landscaping.
  • Reinstatement of the pavement and guard rail installation.

This project is jointly funded by Bass Coast Shire Council and the Federal Government’s Bridges Renewal Program in the value of $1.25 million.

  • The Almurta-Glen Forbes road will be closed at Grantville-Glen Alvie road intersection (at northern end) and at Dalyston-Glen Forbes road intersection (at southern end) during the construction period. Road users are advised to use alternate routes. (See below site location & road closure plan).
  • Appropriate traffic control measures will be in place throughout the duration of works, including road closures, reduced speed limits and detours.
  • Local resident and emergency access will always be available during the construction works.
