About the Project

Council has undertaken projects previously – such as investigation into virtual fencing, and is wanting to continue the research effort to find effective methods to reduce road kill. Council is currently working in collaboration with Wildlife Victoria, Phillip Island Nature Parks, Victoria University and a number of similar minded Councils.

Council is seeking a reliable, continuous funding stream allowing:
• Formal research projects to be undertaken resulting in findings that can be published by reputable academic journals disseminating this information.
• Effective communication with road users to alter driver behaviour in areas of high risk to wildlife.

Council is also seeking assistance from State government to support temporary, localised changes to road law and guidelines to support the innovation proposed for the research projects.

At current levels Council is seeking $100,000 per annum, for seven years
