Bass Coast Shire Council appointed SR Excavations Pty Ltd under annual supply contract to carry out gateway treatments along Lynnes Road, Wattlebank.

Works began in mid-January 2024 and were completed on 16 February 2024.

Installation of new 80 km/hr speed limit (from 100km/hr) signs between gateway treatments and guideposts, as required. • The Federal Government's Black Spot program is part of the commitment to reduce crashes on Australian roads. Road crashes are a major cost to Australians every year. Black Spot projects target those road locations where crashes are occurring. By funding measures such as traffic signals and roundabouts at dangerous locations, the programme reduces the risk of crashes. Programmes of this sort are very effective, saving the community many times the cost of the relatively minor road improvements that are implemented.
  • The objective of the Black Spot program is to reduce the number of serious and fatal road crashes, typically over a five-year period.
  • The locations of the gateway treatments are selected by road safety experts to ensure that they are effective as possible in terms of reducing inappropriate speeds. The locations of the gateway treatments consider the location of nearby underground asset infrastructure. Similar gateway treatments have been installed on the Bass Highway at Kilcunda and Dalyston townships.

This project is part of Council’s adopted 2023/24 Capital works program and is fully funded through the Federal Government Black Spot Program in the order of $190,000.

  • The gateway treatments will involve road widening, sealing of new shoulders, including line marking and raised pavement markers etc. at two locations of Lynnes Road, adjacent to
    • property numbers 470 Lynnes Road and the frontage off Lynnes Road from 55 Anthonys Road.
    • property numbers 740 and 751 Lynnes Road.
  • Installation of new 80 km/hr speed limit (from 100km/hr) signs between gateway treatments and guideposts, as required. Community gateway signage (see picture below) will be installed at the two locations.
  • Appropriate traffic control measures will be in place through the duration of works. Vehicle movements on Lynnes Road may be restricted at times (up to 5 mins) due to the nature of these works.
