Project Summary
Bass Coast Shire Council’s Infrastructure Services Department is set to begin the refurbishment of the Old Post Office in Wonthaggi.
The Wonthaggi Old Post Office is a heritage-listed building of local significance constructed in 1911. Its condition is deteriorating, and works are required to preserve this important building for the future.
The building's current use is predominantly for Council operations, local government elections and occasional public use.
- Demolition of the existing ramp and construction of a new DDA compliant access ramp.
- Roof repair works including replacement of down pipes and associated components.
- Repair and replacement of doors and windows.
- External works including a new stormwater drainage system, paving, and landscaping works.
- Replacement of the internal timber subfloor and installation of new flooring.
- Construction of new unisex toilets, including new fixtures and fittings and new joinery.
- Repairs to the ceilings, walls and painting works.
- Electrical works including new switchboards, new lighting etc.
- Mechanical works including new air conditioning units, exhaust fans etc.
The value of works $1,011,000.00 will be fully funded by Bass Coast Shire
- The use of heavy plant and machinery including noisy, and vibration works such as demolition, earthworks, saw cutting and use of trucks for delivering concrete, soil and building materials to site.
- Temporary fencing will be in place to secure the work site and keep people from entering to the construction site.
- Appropriate traffic and pedestrian control measures will be implemented during these works.
