Project Summary

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Infrastructure Delivery department will shortly commence works to upgrade the main oval at the Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve. The upgrade is required to improve the playing surface for durability and ongoing community activities. Details of the project are outlined below.   • Stripping of the existing thatch layer from turf surface.
  • Removal of the existing irrigation and any sub-surface drainage.
  • Reshaping of the field to reflect the new surface shape.
  • Installation of the new sub-surface drainage and irrigation systems.
  • Installation of a new irrigation holding tank and associated hardware.
  • Undertake turfing of the new surface and maintenance throughout the establishment period.
  • Access from the gate to the Eastern end of the netball courts will be closed. Along with the road surface around the oval, as far as the pedestrian gate to the leisure centre.
  • The playing surface will be fully fenced off and inaccessible to the public.
  • An area of Rec 3 will be used to stockpile stripped materials until disposal.
  • Appropriate traffic and pedestrian control measures will be in place throughout the duration of works, including reduced speed limits.
  • Access to the remainder of the reserve, including emergency access, will always be available during the construction works.
  • We appreciate that these works may present an inconvenience to nearby residents, and we ask for patience during these times. Our contractor will make every effort to minimise disruptions during construction.
