We are pleased to share that new solar-powered car park lighting has been installed at the Wonthaggi Reserve netball car park.

This upgrade provides improved visibility and safety for players, officials, and visitors, particularly during evening training and events. By harnessing renewable solar energy, the new lighting also supports our commitment to reducing environmental impact and operating more sustainably.

Importantly, these works align with the upcoming completion of the new netball pavilion, ensuring the broader precinct is well-equipped, safe and ready to support increased use and activity.

The project is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance community sporting facilities and ensure they remain safe, accessible and fit for purpose.

We appreciate the community’s support while these works were carried out and look forward to the benefits this improvement will bring.

Project Summary

Construction is nearing completion on the new Netball Pavilion at Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve.

About the Project:

The project includes construction of a new Netball Club Pavilion with accessible parking.

We appreciate your patience during the construction period, and please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions before or during the project.

The works include:

  • Preliminaries including mobilisation, site establishment & traffic control.
  • Removal of existing playground equipment & fencing.
  • Construction of fully compliant facility for the Wonthaggi Power Football Netball Club and a second netball community group that will include three change rooms with amenities, umpire change room and amenities, 1 x accessible toilet and change space, medical room, office, kitchenette, multi-purpose space, canteen, baby change facilities and generous storage for user groups.
  • Undercover spectator viewing area at the front of the pavilion facing the courts.
  • The new pavilion will be located central to the 7 courts improving visibility of all courts.

The total cost of the project is $1,536,700

Victorian Government’s Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund $1,000,000

Bass Coast Shire Council $511,700

Club Contribution $25,000

  • In line with the Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve Master Plan, the new play space will be relocated to the eastern end of the netball courts. Council recently applied for funding to redesign this whole area as a dedicated youth space and should this application be successful, community consultation will occur over the next 12-18 months to help shape the design.
  • In the meantime, we encourage families to enjoy the many fantastic playgrounds nearby, including Guide Park (Bass Coast Shire’s Regional and award-winning playground) Apex Park & Rodney Court.
  • The project will result in minor noise from plant and machinery used for construction, including earthmoving equipment, concreting, framing, and the use of trucks for delivery of goods and materials.
