About the Project

Bass Coast Shire Council is committed to building a more resilient, low‑waste future through facilitating the transition to a circular economy, aiming to reduce landfill by designing out waste, and providing community waste education.

Implementing and maintaining the purple lidded glass-only kerbside bin service will be a significant additional cost for regional councils, adding to the growing pressures affecting the financial sustainability of both councils and households.

The high cost of managing legacy landfills is also placing pressure on Council’s limited capital works budget. The final capping of Wonthaggi Closed Landfill will be completed this year, at a cost of $7.2 million, placing a heavy financial burden on Council.
