Following a petition presented to Council on 20 August 2025, a community-initiated road upgrade project for Queen Street, between Merrin Crescent and Broome Crescent, Wonthaggi, was investigated. The petition requested that Council consider a road seal-only upgrade as an alternative to the scheduled removal of the existing dust suppressant seal.

In accordance with Council's Urban Road and Drainage Improvement Policy 2024 (URDI), upgrade costs were proposed to be shared between Council and the benefiting property owners.

On 15 September 2025, letters were issued to affected property owners, including a proposed design plan, an individual contribution schedule and a response form. Property owners were invited to indicate their support or objection to the proposed contribution amounts by 15 October 2025.

At the 10 December 2025 Council meeting, Council endorsed the upgrade and approved funding to progress the project to construction. You can find more details in the Council report at www.basscoast.vic.gov.au/council-meetings.

Payment from all property owners was then made.
