Year after year, our community remind us that the natural beauty of Bass Coast is precious, and one of their highest priorities for Council action. Protecting and enhancing our natural environment is a key aspiration of the Community Vision 2045 and Council Plan 2025-2029.

Council is developing a Nature Positive Strategy, our next long-term road map for protecting, enhancing, restoring and regenerating nature across Bass Coast. In simple terms, Nature Positive means halting and reversing the decline of nature so that biodiversity, ecosystems and habitats are healthier and more abundant in the future than they are today [for more information go to www.naturepositive.org.

The strategy will guide how Council will work with the Bass Coast community to create healthier, more connected and resilient ecosystems on land and sea. We are seeking feedback on the proposed vision, pillars and guiding principles, as well as ideas for the actions and partnerships needed to achieve a Nature Positive Bass Coast.

Your feedback will help shape the final Nature Positive Strategy and inform the Action Plan that will guide its implementation.

To deliver the Nature Positive Strategy, Council will prepare a detailed Action Plan for 2026-2029, informed by the feedback received through the development of this strategy. The Action Plan will translate the strategy's directions into specific actions and priorities.

Some initiatives that support the strategy's goals are already underway, including environmental values mapping and technical work to strengthen the protection of nature across Bass Coast. These projects may include future opportunities for community input as they are developed and implemented.
