About the project

Bass Coast Shire Council is reviewing how markets are run across the Shire, particularly those held on Council-managed land. Your feedback will help shape a new set of guidelines to make markets work better for everyone across our region.

Markets play an important role in activating public spaces, supporting local makers and producers, enhancing the visitor experience and contributing to the local economy. At the same time, Council must balance these benefits with considerations relating to public safety, amenity, environmental protection, operational capacity and fair and transparent governance.

The review will provide Council with a clear, evidence-based framework to guide decision-making and enable a more proactive and strategic approach to markets across the Shire.
