About the Project
The Financial Assistance Grant program is a crucial funding source that support local councils in delivering essential services and infrastructure.
During the 1990’s, the Financial Assistance Grant program had a funding pool that equalled 1% of Commonwealth taxation revenue. This has fallen to just 0.5% today, placing additional pressure on Council’s who face rising costs and increased demand for services.
Both The Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) and The Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) call for funding for this program to be restored to at least 1% of Commonwealth taxation revenue.
