Bass Coast Shire Council appointed contractors Wiltrack Earthmoving Pty Ltd to renew an existing timber bridge along the Rail Trail east of Mouth of Powlett Road, Kilcunda.

These renewal works will maintain the rail trail connection from Phillip Island to Wonthaggi. The bridge which has been in service for many years and had encountered damaged due to age and wear and tear.

The rail trail is a popular destination for cycling, mountain biking and walking, improving the bridge will ensure safer passage for users and continued promotion of health and fitness among the community for many years to come.

These works were funded through Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund Regional Infrastructure Fund through Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions.

The 2nd bridge works upgrade to widen to ensure bridge is fit for purpose for active transport totaled $293,000. (Council $73,250 and Grant $219,750)

Works consisted of the removal and replacement of existing timber bridge with a pre-cast concrete box culvert bridge.
