Project Summary
Bass Coast Shire Council's Infrastructure Services Department will soon commence Black Spot Improvement Works on sections of Glen Alvie Rd adjacent to Wade Rd with the construction of shoulder road widening works, drainage works, asphalt works, new advisory signs and line marking.
Project details are outlined below. There will be periods of temporary traffic lane closure, for safety reasons.
We appreciate your patience during the construction period. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions before or during the project.
The Project
- The Black Spot program is part of the commitment to reduce crashes on Australian roads.
- Road crashes are a major cost to Australians every year. Black Spot projects target those road locations where crashes are occurring.
- This funding includes measures such as traffic signals and roundabouts at dangerous locations; the program reduces the risk of crashes.
- Programs of this sort are very effective, saving the community many times the cost of the relatively minor road improvements that are implemented.
- The objective of Federal Government Black Spot program is to reduce the number of serious or fatal road accidents, typically over a five-year period.
- The locations of the Black Spot improvement are determined through the crash history recorded on some sections of Glen Alvie Road.
- The works will involve shoulder widening, drainage works, asphalting works, additional road signage and line marking including audio tactile line marking.
- Installation of new advisory signs and directional chevron hazard signs on various locations to improve safety on the road bends.
- Changed traffic conditions including partial road closures within the work zone, where applicable.
- Appropriate traffic and pedestrian control measures will be implemented onsite during these works. This will be a construction zone and we appreciate that for your own safety and others that access will be restricted. We encourage road and pedestrian users to seek alternate routes during this period.
- Please follow signage and obey traffic controller directions. Our contractor will make every effort to minimise the disruptions to motorists, schools, residents and businesses along the vicinity of these works.
- The use of heavy plant and machinery including noisy and vibration works such as profiling, asphalt laying, concrete works and use of trucks for removal or delivery of materials.
The Funding is provided by the 25/26 Australian Government Black Spot Program to the value of $440,000.
We appreciate that these works may present an inconvenience and we ask for your patience during these times.
The community, local residents, businesses and other stakeholders will be kept up to date with the project via Council’s website or letter drops, where appropriate.
