About the Project

For more than two decades the community has lobbied for an aquatics facility to cater for the Phillip Island Community. Residents commute long distances to participate in a number of aquatic and recreational activities.

The population of Phillip Island and San Remo is anticipated to increase by 37 per cent by 2035 and host an additional 1.6 million visitors per annum. Council has purchased land in Cowes on the southwest corner of the intersection of Phillip Island and Ventnor Roads for the future home of the Phillip Island Aquatics and Recreation Precinct.

The proposed Centre will provide for anticipated growth and meet the recreation standards expected of a top tourist town.

The future Phillip Island Aquatic and Leisure Centre is designed to be a district facility, and is recommended to contain the following components:

  • Main competition pool with 25m x 8 lanes which is able to cater to short course competitions and comparable to other facilities in similar areas
  • Warm Water/Leisure/Learn to Swim Program Pool (Catering for older adults, leisure and learn to swim areas with moveable floor)
  • Water Play Unit and Splash Pad with adjoining Toddlers Pool
  • Covered in Water Slides and Tower
  • Dry and Steam Saunas
  • In-ground Spa
  • Gym (requires 24-hour access design)
  • Multipurpose Rooms / Function Rooms
  • Foyer, Reception, Merchandising, Café
  • Offices, Administration/Staff Rooms and Meeting Rooms
  • Change Rooms and amenities
  • Indoor stadium (possibly as Stage 2)

A Matthew Guy Liberals and Nationals Government announced on 20th July 2022 that they will contribute $42 million towards the new Phillip Island Aquatics and Leisure Centre if elected.
