Bass Coast Shire Council is developing a Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan (Strategy) to help make our roads safer for everyone.

The project has been funded through the Transport Accident Commission's (TAC) Local Government Grant Program and responds to road safety concerns raised by the community during consultation on Council's Integrated Transport Strategy.

The Strategy will provide a long-term, evidence-based framework to guide Council's road safety priorities, investment and decision-making. It will identify practical actions to reduce road trauma across the Shire while aligning with the Victorian Road Safety Strategy 2021–2030 and Bass Coast's Integrated Transport Strategy 2025–2045.

The Strategy will be developed using the Safe System approach, which recognises that people make mistakes and that the road network should be designed to reduce the likelihood of death and serious injury when crashes occur. It considers the interaction between safe roads and roadsides, safe speeds, safe vehicles and safe road users to create a more forgiving road system.

Community input is an important part of this project. Local knowledge, together with crash data and technical analysis, will help identify the road safety issues and priorities that matter most. Whether you walk, ride, drive or travel around Bass Coast, your feedback will help shape the actions that make our roads safer for everyone.

Together with Safe System Solutions Pty Ltd, we invite the community to participate in a workshop to help shape this important work.

This workshop will support the development of an action plan that aligns with the Victorian Road Safety Strategy, which aims to halve road deaths and reduce serious injuries by 2030. The purpose of the workshop is to understand the road safety issues identified by our community and gather ideas to address them.

To make it easier for everyone to attend, we’re running two identical workshops. You’re welcome to join whichever suits you best.
